Questions electricians ask about marketing

Direct answers for electrical contractors on reviews, Google Ads, EV charger and panel work, websites, missed calls, the benchmark data and the free 14-day trial.

How many Google reviews does an electrical company need?

Enough to beat the three listings you appear beside. Across 65,890 electrical listings the median is 7 reviews and 57.6% have fewer than 10. In a real metro the shops holding the map pack are usually past 100, and only 7.5% of electricians are there. A workable target is one review per completed job day, asked for at the door before the truck pulls away. The scripts are in the reviews guide.

What does an electrician lead cost on Google Ads?

Usually $45 to $160 per call depending on the metro and the service. Panel upgrade, EV charger and generator terms cost more per click than plain "electrician" but convert into far bigger tickets, so the cost per booked job is lower. Shops that lose money on Google Ads are almost always running broad match on "electrician" around the clock with no call tracking. See the Google Ads guide.

Are EV charger installs actually worth advertising for?

Yes, if you treat them as the front door rather than the job. A charger install is a $700 to $2,400 ticket, but a large share of the homes that want one need a load calculation and, often, a service or panel upgrade at $3,000 to $6,000. Advertise the charger, quote the panel honestly when the load calc says so, and the channel pays for itself. Do not advertise it if you are not set up to pull permits quickly.

Should I advertise emergency work or scheduled work?

Both, in separate campaigns, because they behave nothing alike. Emergency searches (no power, burning smell, breaker keeps tripping) convert in minutes and need someone answering. Scheduled work (panel upgrade, generator, recessed lighting, EV charger) takes days or weeks to close and needs follow-up. Running them in one campaign with one budget means the emergency clicks eat the money and the scheduled leads get a voicemail.

Do I need a website if I already have a Google profile?

The data says yes. Electricians with a website show a median of 11 reviews; those without one show 2. Some of that is that serious shops do both, but the site is also where Google and the AI answer engines confirm what you install, what you are licensed for, and where you work. 34.6% of electricians link no site at all, which makes it one of the easiest gaps to open on the shop down the road.

What happens when I miss a call?

The homeowner calls the next electrician in the list, usually within the same minute. Home service companies typically miss around a quarter of inbound calls, and for an electrician a missed call can be a $4,000 generator job. Missed-call text-back, which fires an automatic text within seconds, recovers a real share of them. Put your own ticket and call volume into the calculator.

Do Facebook and Instagram ads work for electricians?

Not for emergencies. Nobody scrolls Instagram while the panel is arcing. They work well for the planned, expensive work: generators before storm season, panel upgrades, EV chargers, recessed lighting and outdoor lighting, and whole-house surge protection. Homeowner targeting by zip code with a specific offer produces leads at $20 to $70 in most markets, and retargeting is cheap. Details in the Meta ads guide.

Does online marketing matter if most of my work comes from builders and GCs?

It matters differently. Builders and general contractors check you before they add you to a bid list, and a profile with 7 reviews and no website reads as a one-truck operation. New construction also goes quiet exactly when residential service is busy, which is the argument for keeping a residential channel warm year-round rather than switching it on when a builder pauses.

How do I show up when someone asks ChatGPT for an electrician?

The answer engines lean on the same signals Google uses plus clean, plain text they can quote. That means a complete Google profile, the same business name and address everywhere, a site that states your services, your license status and your cities in ordinary sentences, reviews that mention specific jobs, and a few mentions on local sites. The AI search guide walks through it.

Is the benchmark data trustworthy?

It is public data collected at scale, so read it as accurate within a point or two, not to the decimal. Listings are deduplicated by Google place and refreshed monthly. Google's own "electrician" category also catches a handful of supply stores and utilities, which we note rather than hide. Google does not publish any of this, which is why we compute it. The method is on the about page.

Where does the benchmark data come from?

Public Google Business Profile listings, found through Google Maps searches for electricians in every state. We keep only the public business fields: review count, rating, linked website, listed hours, category and location. No reviewer names and no personal information are stored.

What is included in the free 14-day trial?

Any one of the services we run, or several together: Google Ads management, Meta ads, AI search optimization, local SEO and Google profile work, website design, social media management, review generation, missed-call text-back and follow-up, email and SMS campaigns, bookkeeping, and cold-call appointment setting. Setup, management and reporting are all included. If you choose to run ads, the spend paid to Google or Meta is yours.

What happens after the 14 days?

You choose. Keep the service at the monthly price quoted before the trial began, switch to a different one, or stop. Nothing renews on its own, nothing is charged during the trial, and there is no cancellation step because there is nothing running.

Do I have to give a credit card?

No. There is no card on file at any point during the trial. What we ask for is access to the accounts involved, such as your Google Business Profile or ad account, and about 20 minutes for a setup call. Most services are live within 48 hours of that call. A new website takes roughly a week to a first draft.
